Research has shown that people moving in groups, such as families and couples, have a large impact on the dynamics and decision making behaviour of crowd movement. Our software has group behaviour built in directly to it for more accurate simulations.
Each group acts and makes decisions as a single unit, with the group trying to stay together when they get dispersed in a crowd. People ahead in the group will slow down slightly so other members of the group can catch up, as well as other members of the group having a tendency to regroup before heading towards their decided exit. This affects crowd movement and flow significantly and is important to enable as part of the simulation.
